JK Rowling’s hatred of chocolate and her husband’s perfume allergy allowed her to catch a personal assistant who stole thousands of pounds from her.

Amanda Donaldson, 35, was ordered yesterday to repay nearly £19,000 plus interest to the Harry Potter author after a court was told that she used her employer’s credit card on spending sprees.

Ms Donaldson was dismissed as Ms Rowling’s personal assistant in 2017 over allegations of unauthorised spending and Ms Rowling, 53, sought damages in a civil case heard at Airdrie sheriff court under her married name, Joanne Murray.
